AEO: make the answer extractable

Answer Engine Optimization in Seryvon examines whether a page exposes an identifiable answer and supporting context. It combines structural clues such as definitions, tables and lead paragraphs with attribution signals. Where external citation metrics exist, the pillar can also report measured retrieval citations separately from those on-page clues.

Good answer structure

Start with the question the page resolves. Give the essential answer before background, then explain prerequisites, steps, exceptions and supporting sources. This makes a guide easier to use whether someone reads it directly or an engine extracts a passage. Clear wording must remain accurate when separated from nearby navigation or promotional copy.

For example, an audit setup article should explain what inputs are needed, how to start the documented workflow and how to interpret missing measurements. If a provider must be configured for a result, say so beside that result. A short answer that omits the dependency can mislead even when its paragraph structure passes a check.

What Seryvon actually checks

The AEO scoring rules inspect author and credential signals, About-page hints in URLs or titles, DefinedTerm markup or definition lists, structured publication or modification dates, HTML tables and lead paragraphs. The directness rule counts pages whose lead paragraph contains at least 20 words. It does not evaluate whether those words answer the question correctly.

Several checks establish presence somewhere in the crawl. Detecting a table does not prove that every comparison page is complete. Detecting an About page does not independently verify editorial accountability. Author credentials are inferred from supplied signals; a high result should never be described as a professional accreditation.

Review an answer in context

  1. Read the opening paragraph alone. Identify any terms or assumptions that require a definition.
  2. Follow the procedure as a reader would, checking that prerequisites appear before dependent steps.
  3. Verify each factual claim against its cited source. Attribute the product and publisher accurately.
  4. Use a table only when repeated fields make comparison clearer, and explain material exceptions in nearby prose.
  5. Review the extracted evidence after the edit. Confirm the answer remains visible in the initial HTML where practical.

A glossary can use a definition list to pair a term with its meaning. A comparison can use explicit column headings and consistent units. Neither format replaces an explanation of uncertainty. If a capability is under development, describe the available implementation and its limits without implying a managed service is already open.

Are answers being cited?

The citation criterion reads the aggregated retrieval citation rate when supplied, with per-engine evidence. Without citation metrics it returns not measured. The knowledge-graph criterion similarly needs its external signal. A well-structured answer can pass static checks while citation evidence is unavailable or absent in a tested sample.

Use GEO to examine citation context and raw-content availability. Review the Methodology and Features for the wider audit model. Heuristic readiness, observed citations and search rankings must remain distinct in reports.
